The Flayers are a race descended from those first astral visitors who came to the Mortal planes, fleeing their world. Their skin ranges in colour from blue to black and they are distinguished by groups of tentacles that protrude from their faces, where most would expect a mouth to me. These tendrils, ranging from 10cm to a metre in length, have no real practical use but move as the Flayer speaks

Flayers are known for their withdrawn, more-or-less silent nature, and their very great perceptive skills. Scientific in their judgment of things, and meticulous in their completion of tasks. Flayers also have strong skills in deduction and observation and are often acutely aware of the expressions or changes in emotional state of those they are addressing. Flayers are good at recognizing the feelings of those they are with and how they are responding to circumstances but in contrast, however, given their more cool, withdrawn nature, they are less likely to understand the expressions they recognize.

Flayers appreciate humour, but it is rare that they use it themselves. Among their kind, however, funny individuals are often lauded and are more readily welcomed.

Flayers are often mages, scholars, or accountants and have, until the Age of Enlightenment, faced racism in obtaining jobs. Most Flayers are very cautious and they maintain a continued defense to protect themselves against the great vendetta that the Gith wish to carry out upon them.
