The Gith are a race of people descended from Humans, Dwarves, Drow, Elves, and Halflings and divided into stock of Human/Elven/Drowish descent and those of Dwarven/Halfling descent. Depending upon their particular lineage, Gith may strongly resemble one race or another (and often a mix as listed above), though they have thick, rough skin pulled taut over their features. Gith are also quite thin, due to their high metabolism, and have deep-set eyes. Few have facial hair. While some may be mistaken as members of the races of their heritage, many are identifiable as Gith.

Though they are of medium build, Gith are often quite strong. They have a very powerful immune system that spares them most illnesses. On the rare occasion that they do become sick, they are quick to recover. This immunity does not apply to magical illnesses, however. The Gith also share a unique telepathic link with other members of their race, allowing them to communicate with one another from the time of birth.

The Gith are descended from a group of people who were abducted by Flayers over 3,000 years ago. These people were tormented as part of an elaborate set of experimentation over the course of centuries. Eventually, a savior by the name of Gith led them to freedom, although their bodies had long since been altered by the power of the Flayers.

All Gith pay homage to their namesake, a tradition that has grown into a sort of worship of their ancestor that more closely resembles a celebration of their people. The Gith live in closely knit groups, having little allegiance to the races of their ancestry. They have a vehement hate of the Flayers who bred into them from birth, and cannot stand the sight of them. Apart from their strong reaction towards Flayers, the Gith are a wise people who are commonly known to enjoy musical and theatrical pursuits.
