The Troll is as deadly as it is hideous. Standing on average about eight feet in height and carrying three hundred pounds on its heavily muscled frame, the Troll is ugly and plotting. Though naturally of low wisdom, the race is imbued with a wicked intelligence and the ability to see naturally in the darkness. Trolls usually make poor magic users, and suffer from an unusually low dexterity, yet their boundless energy and high intellect create one of the most cunning beings.

Owing in part to the black blood which courses through their heavy veins, the heavily scaled skin of the Troll ranges in colour from a charcoal grey to a light, repulsive green. They revel in the fright of their appearance, often wearing their hair in battle-braids and emblazoning themselves with brands and tattoos to accentuate this effect.

Trolls came into being at roughly the same time as most other races, during the age of Warring. Since that time, Trolls have had the tendency to live alongside other races, and evidence suggests they acted as dominant overlords of the Ogres, for some time, though that is no longer the case. Also, due to the nature of their intelligence, there is a long history of wars between Trollish clans. A strange breed of assassin politics, half-Drow-like, half-Ogre-like, lead to a civilization which, up until the Age of Enlightenment, was very anarchic. After literacy became more widespread, the Trolls ceased their previous societal structure, preferring to merge into the societies of other folk.
